Plan for When I Return:
- Finish any structures I am missing
- Begin the coding process
|
This post is going to be a much shorter one since I need to create this post a day in advanced because I am off of school for winter break on Friday and I wont be in class on Thursday. Besides that, I was able to create the barracks structure for my game, and I was able to place it within my Unity scene in this abbreviated week. Over break, if I remember, I plan on working on my project some more. If I don't work on it, my plan for when I get back is to complete the farm structure and any other minor details that I am missing for my first prototype. If I do work on it over break and finish all of that, I plan on working on coding the game to start actually being a game. That's it for me, see you next year and enjoy your holidays!

This week I was able to finish up the keep part of my castle and make sure that I could place it within Unity. I will texture it later on when I am done with a few more buildings or so. I plan on making two more buildings for the first version of the game, a farm building and a barracks building. That way I have a building that will increase the supply count (a numerical value representing how many units you can have) and a building for creating units. I also would need to make a type of rock that has some sort of mineral or ore in it so that there is another resource for the players to use in the creation of new units and structures. After that, the game will be in a good place to start the coding process since I will have the basics for an RTS at my disposal. I have a good plan in my head, I just got to take it one step at a time. Next week will be a continuation of this week's endeavors into creating buildings for my game.
Plan for Next Week:
This week was a busy week. On Wednesday, I had to take the ACT WorkKeys test, which is a test that measures the foundational skills required in the workplace. I had to take this test since I have been in my game art design classes for four years, and since it is considered a CTE class, I had to take the test. Anyway, the test was one of the easiest standardized tests I have ever taken in my life. It was basically looking for if you have reading comprehension for both written and graphical articles and if you can do math on a middle school level. On Tuesday, I was allowed to mess around in VR for the entire class period since it was setup and I am running the VR section for my school's game night on Friday for rising freshmen who are interested in game art design. The rest of the week was spent working on buildings for my game. I was able to create the walls for my castle structure and I plan on finishing the actually keep next week along with another building or two. On a side note, I used bevel a lot to make sure that the wall's segments were even, and I just now realized that there is a part of the bevel dialog box that lets you apply your bevel and continue using the bevel tool on your current selection, which would've been nice to have known a little while ago.
Plan for Next Week:
This week has been a week of exploring how Unity treats my models. I spent good day or two figuring out how to use my low poly tree with the paint tree tool for my terrain. The original model was made with two cylinders that were modified with an editable poly modifier. Unity didn't like this since the cylinders had two separate meshes which made the paint tree tool unusable. The easy fix to this issue was to attach the two cylinders together in 3DS Max in order to make them one mesh. Luckily, this allowed me to finally place my trees on the terrain. The next issue was that the trees were being placed sideways rather than being placed pointing upwards like every other tree. Turns out Unity automatically rotated the imported model to be -90 degrees on the x-axis. This was much easier to fix since all I had to do was change the pivot point of the model in 3DS Max by rotating it 90 degrees on the x-axis and by moving the pivot point down to the base of the tree. This allowed me to finally have trees on my terrain for Unity (minus textures, I'll get there in the future). The rest of the week was me exploring different ways to create low poly rocks for my environment. Next week will be mainly focused on creating buildings and placing them in Unity.
