Since I have worked with 3DS Max earlier this year for our board game project, I got familiar with the controls again a lot quicker than I probably would have without it. The movement controls and a lot of the short cuts came back to me quickly, such as the scale, move, and rotate hotkeys. Too be honest, I wasn't surprised to find that I remembered theses controls since I used them all the time in 3DS Max, so I expected them to be like muscle memory and automatic without me even thinking about them. I found all of the various modifiers difficult to get accustomed to again since I forgot what most of them did and I don't know if any of them were changed with the new version of 3DS Max. I also forgot how to use the texture editor in 3DS Max, which was a challenge to use again. I am currently very excited to be moving towards a solely 3D direction for the rest of the year since I will need to work on my skills in modeling for my project that I will be doing next year in Advanced Studies. I am also very excited to try out unity since I haven't used the software before and I am going to be using it for my game engine next year as well.

My game design class is getting ready to dive back into 3DS Max after being away from the program for a while. Luckily, I have been able to use 3DS Max a little bit for the board game group project that I had earlier in the year, so I at least remember a little bit more than I would have if I didn't. However, I still don't remember too much about 3DS Max from the time that I spent using it during my freshman year. So this few upcoming weeks will be a nice refresher on 3DS Max and I will be able to expand on my knowledge for the program later on as I get through more of the work that I was assigned. I am hoping that this knowledge will help me further understand how to use the program as well as help me get prepared for the massive project that I will be doing next school year in which I will be making an RTS game from scratch on my own. The first assignment involves creating four different models that use at least one different modifier in their creation. I plan on creating various weapons, such as a sword or a staff, so that I can practice creating weapons for when I make my game next year. I will update on this topic later on when I get some work done in the class.
