Over the year I have written many blog posts on various game design topics for my Game Art Design class and through that experience, I have thought about game design in multiple ways. These blog posts were helpful in my understanding on what game design is and how one can approach it. For example, a somewhat recent post called Levels made me think more about how I could improve my levels and how to make the levels fun yet challenging at the same time. The blog post about User vs Professional Certification made me think about whether or not I want to get certifications in various programs such as 3D Studio Max. Another blog post that I found useful was the one where we analyzed different board games for game design elements since it gave me more of an understanding of what game elements are in a game and how they work together as a group. Overall, I would say that these blog posts can be helpful in the understanding of game design ideas and techniques.

Through the various projects of creating games that are both board and digital, I have learned a lot of useful information based on game design and out of this information, I believe the information and project based on creating a board game was the most important. This project was able to teach me the basic game elements such as rules, objects, resources, etc. as well as how to create a Game Design Document and pitch my game concept to my peers. Not only that, but it also helped me with cooperating with a group of my peers on creating a game, a valuable skill when working on a game with others. There isn't much that I can think of as of right now that I would change when it comes to the curriculum since I have been focused on Game Maker for the past few months and I can't remember too much of what we did at the beginning of the year.
Before taking the Game Art Design class, which is the second class in a set of four game design classes at my school, I took Scientific Visualization or Sci Vis for short. This class mainly focused on design elements and how to create visuals be it 2D or 3D. I found this class to be helpful in providing knowledge of the use of certain software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and 3D Studio Max, and useful techniques that I use still use when thinking of game design ideas. Without the knowledge of Photoshop or Illustrator, I probably would have struggled a lot when I was working on creating my personal avatar from a previous assignment since I had no previous experience of Adobe products until Sci Vis. The techniques I learned, such as goals and leadership or the elements and principles of design, have helped me in creating various things in Game Art Design such as some infographics at the beginning of the year and the board game project where I had to work together with other classmates in order to complete a board game. The current Sci Vis class was very helpful in getting me prepared for Game Art Design and my only suggestion to improve the Sci Vis class is to put more focus on presenting in front of peers and working with your peers since the game design career path, as well as other paths, require you to do said things on a regular basis and some people may not be comfortable or very bad with cooperation.
