Plan for Next Week:
- Finish the sword for my knight
- Import the knight into mixamo
- Figure out how to import the mixamo rigged model with the animations

Finally, after another week of inclement weather, I have had the opportunity to do some actual work on my project. This week I have been able to import my knight model, with some tweaking, into mixamo, and I was able to apply all of the site's animations to my model, albeit some of them looked better than others. I still feel like I need to tweak my model in order to make the animations look better, but for now I don't care about how it looks until I can make my game work. While I was tweaking my knight model and checking out different animations for it in mixamo, I realized that I don't have the sword to accompany my knight model (not much of a knight if it doesn't have a sword). So, I decided to work on making a sword the past day or two and I am nearly done with it. I plan on importing the knight with a sword into mixamo to see how that affects the animations later next week, most likely Monday or Tuesday. After that, I am going to need to figure out how to import my rigged knight in mixamo into my Unity scene, and I think there should be a couple of tutorials online that I can reference in order to do this. Let's hope that there won't be anymore inclement weather for the rest of the year since I would like to stay on track with my project rather than be another week behind.

This week was a very busy week since it was the last one in the second quarter and first semester. I decided to make a simple house rather than a farm for the supply cap building since it makes more sense in my head to have more living space for units rather than food for units. To be honest, either building would've worked, I just wanted to be a bit lazier (this week had a lot of work for me to do). Other than that building, I also was given a potential shortcut to rigging and animating my knight unit by my teacher that involves the use of mixamo. I have yet to try and import my model into mixamo to see if I can properly rig it since mixamo can only rig humanoid models, and I'm not sure whether or not my model will be appropriate since it is missing the legs and arms that humans should have. Next week, I plan on getting all of my assets ready for the long and arduous process of coding the very basics of my game.
The picture below is an example of what I could do with mixamo if I can get my knight rigged properly. Plan for Next Week:
Early on this week, I was perusing random Youtube videos in my spare time and I stumbled upon many videos about Electronic Arts (EA) and two of their new potential patents for matchmaking in video games. The gist of all these videos is that EA is researching new methods of squeezing every last dime out of their consumer's pockets that involve unfairly matching players. One of the patents involves matching players who are new or don't have the best equipment or items in the game against players who have better equipment or items. By doing this, the weaker players will see just how underpowered they are compared to their opponents and will be forced to deal with that power difference, or fall into EA's trap and buy whatever microtransactions are in the game in order to get ahead of the competition. This is one of the most despicable methods of luring players into purchasing microtransactions that I have ever seen. It puts all other mobile games to shame by ruining the game for the consumers unless they are willing to spend more money on top of the initial cost of the game. The other patent that EA is looking to use involves a system that artificially makes the matches easier or harder on the player depending on their wins and loses. It basically fixes games to be a win or a lose for the player which doesn't make the game any fun since the player has no control over whether or not they can win or lose. I just felt as if it was good to spread the word about this topic in order to warn consumers for the future of EA and their games. If you want to more information about this topic, just look up "EA Patents" and they will most likely pop up.
I haven't realized just how far into the school year I was until I typed up my last weekly blog post and saw that I was already on post number seventeen. Man does time fly. Anyway, I figured that since I already did a post after the first quarter of the year to reflect on what I have done, I might as well do it again at the halfway point. This quarter has been a pretty productive one. I was able to get a rough idea of what my level is going to look like, and I was able to create a good amount of 3D models for my game. Last quarter was difficult since I didn't really know where I was going to start and how I wanted everything to look. This quarter, I feel as if I have a good overall list of things that I need to do in order to make a functioning game, albeit not a polished game, but what do you expect from a senior in high school who is making is first game ever? All in all, I found this quarter to be great and I can't wait to start getting into the coding for the game, which will be a massive re-learning process since I haven't touched C# after school got out last year. I hope that this process wont take too long and that I will be able to make leaps and bounds of progress on my game next quarter.
Sorry for the late blog post, there was some inclement weather last week and didn't have the chance to post the work I did. Besides that, I am back from my (extended) winter break from school and I am ready to get back to work. With the very little time I had last week, I was able to get finished models for some low poly rocks. I would've rather started the model for the farm structure that I was planning on doing last week, but I saw the potential for school being canceled and decided to work on a smaller project. I got the method of how to make these rocks from a very helpful video found at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0XQVS1qxZI. All credit is given to this guy for the idea. With the end of the quarter approaching at the end of the week, I plan on being done with the base models for my game so that I will be ready to code starting next week. The only model that I have left is the farm structure and that is it.
